American pilot dies, Saudi trainee injured in chopper crash in Riyadh

RIYADH – An American pilot working with Saudi Arabia's National Guard was killed and his Saudi student trainee injured when their helicopter crashed in Riyadh on Thursday, the Ministry of the National Guard said in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency.

The ministry said that the accident occurred on Thursday morning at Khashm Al-An airport in Riyadh while the Boeing AH-6i helicopter was at its usual training mission.

The accident caused the death of trainer Paul Reddy, a US national, and injury to trainee Flying Officer Hisham Bin Abdulaziz Al Asheikh, who was transferred to King Abdulaziz Medical City at the National Guard for treatment and his condition is stable, the statement said. “Investigation committees are still completing their procedures to find out the cause of the accident,” the ministry said. — SG/SPA
