King Salman telephones India's prime minister, congratulates him on election victory

JEDDAH – Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman telephoned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday and congratulated him on his Bharatiya Janata Party-led nationalist alliance winning a second term in the country's parliamentary elections, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said on Friday.

King Salman expressed his sincere congratulations to Modi on the success and wished more prosperity for the Indian people.

The Indian prime minister thanked the King for the telephone call and expressed his keenness to strengthen relations between the two countries in different fields.

Earlier on Thursday, King Salman sent a cable of congratulations to Modi on his party winning the general elections under his leadership.

In his own name and on behalf of the government and people of Saudi Arabia, the King expressed most sincere congratulations to the prime minister, and wished the people of India steady progress and prosperity.

Also on Thursday, Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, sent a similar cable of congratulations to the Indian prime minister.

In his cable, the crown prince wished the prime minister good health and steady progress and prosperity for the people of India. – SPA
