RIYADH —
As part of celebrations to mark the Year of Arabic Calligraphy, the Culture Ministry has organized an artistic and musical event titled “Arabic Calligraphy Murals” in Alkhobar, Riyadh and Jeddah.

The event combines Arabic calligraphy and graffiti, with the participation of Saudi artists and calligraphers within the Quality of Life Program of the Vision 2030 reform plan, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said.

Saudi calligraphers are decorating designated public areas in cooperation with their municipalities. The two-day event in Al-Khobar began on Saturday while it will be held in Riyadh on Feb. 23-24 and Feb. 28-29 in Jeddah.

The event is part of the ministry’s efforts to support local talents and offer them opportunities to showcase their abilities.

Culture Minister Prince Badr Bin Abdullah Bin Farhan had designated 2020 the Year of Arabic Calligraphy to celebrate the art form as well as the history and beauty of the Arabic language.

Several male and female Saudi artists and calligraphers are taking part in these unique arts events, where the art of Arabic calligraphy is blended with graffiti.
