RIYADH — New coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia surged past 1,300 on Tuesday for the first time in three weeks, with 1,379 new infections recorded over the past 24 hours, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

Saudi Arabia recorded 1,338 new COVID-19 cases on July 2.

According to the ministry, 10 more people died due to complications caused by the virus.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 520,774 and the virus-related fatalities to 8,189.

The ministry also said that a total of 1,021 people recovered over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 501,449.

The Riyadh region reported the highest number of new cases with 273, followed by the Makkah region with 242, the Eastern region with 224 and the Asir region with 154 infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just one of them reporting less than 10 infections.

According to the ministry, there were 11,136 active cases and 1,419 of them were in critical condition.
