JEDDAH — The Saudi-led coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen on Wednesday announced the interception and destruction of two booby-trapped drones fired deliberately and systematically by the "terrorist" Houthi militias to target the residential areas in the southern Saudi city of Khamis Mushait.
"Escalation of the Houthi militias to target civilians and the residential areas is a barbaric and hostile act," Saudi Press Agency quoted the coalition. The Houthi attempts to fire the explosive-laden drones have been repelled, the Coalition said.
It emphasized that it would take all required operational steps to deal with the source of threats so as to protect civilians and the urban areas from the hostile assaults, in line with international humanitarian law and its norms.
Meanwhile, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary General Dr. Yousef Bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen strongly denounced the terrorist Houthi militia’s failed attempts to target civilians and civilian objects in Khamis Mushait City, with two bomb-laden drones, praising, at the same time, the Saudi Air Defense Forces’ efficiency and skills in intercepting and destroying the drones before reaching their targets.
Dr. Al-Othaimeen reiterated his calls on the international community to take decisive stances to stop the continuous cowardly threats with ballistic missiles and UAVs that the Houthi militia uses to target civilians and civilian objects.
He stressed the OIC’s firm position that considers the Houthi militia’s practices a blatant challenge to international humanitarian law and war crimes.
The secretary general affirmed the OIC’s support for all measures that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia takes to confront the practices of the terrorist Houthi militia, preserve its security, stability and the safety of its citizens and residents.
In Manama, the kingdom of Bahrain has strongly condemned the Iran-backed terrorist Houthi militia’s launching of bomb-laden drones towards the city of Khamis Mushait in Saudi Arabia, in a systematic and continuous aggression against the security and safety of Saudi Arabia’s citizens and residents and in a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and humanitarian values.
In a statement issued Thursday, the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the vigilance and readiness of the Saudi Air Defense Forces that intercepted and destroyed the drones before reaching their targets.
The ministry affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s full support and solidarity with Saudi Arabia in all measures it takes to confront whatever threatens its security and stability and to defend its sovereignty and the safety of its citizens and residents.
Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the international community to condemn such terrorist attacks and take firm action to protect civilians.
In Tunis, Tunisia has strongly condemned the repeated and continuous attacks against Saudi Arabia following the recent targeting of the Eastern and Southern Regions of Saudi Arabia with ballistic missiles and bomb-laden drones, which resulted in leaving civilians injured and damaging a number of houses.
In a statement issued Thursday, the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that this escalation represents a threat to the security and stability of Saudi Arabia and the entire region and is a flagrant violation of international laws and norms.
The ministry reiterated Tunisia’s solidarity and standing by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in addressing all these threats. — SPA
