RIYADH — The Group of Twenty (G20) Wednesday launched the "G20 Water Platform" which was established, hosted and supervised by the Kingdom during the first five years.

The launch of the platform came during the second meeting of the Water Dialogue hosted by Italy (remotely), in which the Italian Minister of Environmental Transformation, the Indonesian Minister of Environment and Forests and the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Eng. Abdurrahman Al-Fadli spoke.

In his speech to launch the platform, Eng. Al-Fadhli said: “During the presidency of Saudi Arabia last year, the G20 countries agreed to hold an annual dialogue for the G20 on water, and share their best practices and knowledge on sustainable and flexible water management with the rest of the world.

It was also decided that the results of the annual meetings will be published in a digital platform that was developed and hosted by the Kingdom during the first five years.”

He further said, "I am very pleased today to share with you the G20 Water Platform as an effective tool for sharing G20 best practices in water management with the rest of the world."

He added that water scarcity is the main global challenge, pointing out that droughts and floods have become more severe as a result of climate change.

“The novel coronavirus epidemic has shed light on many global challenges, including the need to ensure access to clean water and safe sanitation services,” said Eng. Al-Fadhli.

He stressed that exchanging knowledge and best practices with the international community can help overcome global water challenges. — SPA
