Australian rider Alexander wins Saudi Show Jumping grand prize

RIYADH — Minister of Sports and President of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al-Faisal on Saturday crowned Australian rider Edwina Alexander with the first place trophy in the Grand "Saudi Show Jumping" equestrian competition.

The event started last Thursday and was organized by the Saudi Equestrian Federation at the headquarters of "Saudi Showjumping" at the Horse Racing Club in Janadriyah.

The Australian rider succeeded in grabbing the world-ranked main round, which grants eligibility to participate directly in 2022 World Cup showjumping finals in Germany, according to special rules.

The Australia rider won with a time of 76.15 seconds, on the final day of the (4-star) category, with the Egyptian rider Mawaddah Zayada takingsecond place in 69.03 seconds and Saudi rider Khaled Al-Mobti placing third with a time of 69.95 seconds.

In a statement after the prize-distribution ceremony, Prince Abdulaziz thanked the Kingdom's leadership, praising in this regard the support and interest of the Crown Prince in various sports, especially the Saudi Showjumping competition for the category (4 stars) that qualify the winners for the World Cup finals.

He said, "A distinguished participation represented by a number of Saudi jockeys, including 15 male and female riders under 21 years old, and this bodes well for equestrian sports." — SPA
