RIYADH — British Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Kwasi Kwarteng visited on Monday the super-giant Shaybah oil field located in the southeast of Saudi Arabia.

He was accompanied by Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman. They also joined in a land trip close to the oil field. The British minister was dressed in traditional Saudi clothing during the trip.

Shaybah is one of the most important oil and gas fields in the Kingdom. Located in the northern edge of the Empty Quarter, the oil field’s current output is one million barrels per day.

The oil production in the field on a daily basis is equivalent to what is produced by a number of oil-producing countries together, and its quality is high and less polluting while compared to other oil fields.

Kwarteng also visited King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center in Riyadh.

Also on Monday, the British minister toured the Jubail Industrial City where he was welcomed by Abdullah Al-Saadan, president of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, and other officials.

Kwarteng and Al-Saadan held wide-ranging talks that focused mainly on the commission’s major activities and the diversity of industries and products in the industrial city.
