JEDDAH — The Arab Coalition welcomed on Friday the announcement made by the UN Special envoy Hans Grundberg of a ceasefire in Yemen for two months.

All military operations in Yemen and on Saudi-Yemeni Borders will be halted according to the detailed arrangements announced by the SESGY under UN auspices to provide the proper proper environment and grounds for deescalation and reaching a political settlement to the conflict between Yemeni parties, and achieving comprehensive peace.

In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), coalition spokesman Brigadier General Turki Al-Malki said the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition supports and welcomes the announcement made by the Yemeni government in which they accepted the ceasefire announced under UN auspices.

“We highly appreciates the efforts of the UN SESGY in announcing this ceasefire, that is in context with the Saudi Peace Initiative to end the Yemeni crisis and reach comprehensive political resolution, which was announced on March 2021, as well as the announcement made by the Coalition of a cessation of military activities in Yemen in response to the request made by the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.”

He added that the Joint Forces Command supports all efforts and arrangements undertaken by the UN to sustain this ceasefire, and create proper conditions for Yemeni parties to kickstart the political process, and reach a comprehensive peace that achieves security, stability and prosperity for the brotherly people of Yemen.
