Goods conforming to regulations enhance competitiveness of Saudi products globally

RIYADH — Minister of Commerce and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization (SASO) Dr. Majid Bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi confirmed that the increase in the percentage of the goods that are conforming to the technical regulations enables Saudi products to achieve competitiveness in international markets.

It would also enhance the volume of trade exchange between Saudi Arabia and the countries, in addition to providing the consumers the safe borders that preserve their safety in accordance with the best international standard, he said.

Dr. Al-Qasabi praised the unlimited support of the wise Saudi leadership to develop the national abilities in the quality infrastructure system, and also enhance building human capabilities in this sector, in order to achieve the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

The statements of Dr. Al-Qasabi was delivered by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) Governor Dr. Saad Bin Othman Al-Qasabi during the opening of the activities of the 6th Standards Forum 2022 that is being held in Riyadh and organized by SASO, under the patronage of the commerce minister.

From his side, the Deputy Governor for Standardization and Laboratories, Eng. Tames Al-Hammadi said at the 6th Standard Forum, being held under the slogan of Joint Vision for a Better World, that SASO has been keen in aligning the national standards with international standards, in order to keep pace with strategic directions at the regional and international levels.

"Aligning the national standards with the international standards will contribute to achieving sustainable development, in addition to enhancing opportunities for integration with all our partners from various governmental and private sectors, which will positively reflect on the competitiveness of the Saudi economy," Eng. Al-Hammadi noted.

He added that the Standards Forum constitutes an opportunity for exchanging experiences, as well as a starting point for a strategic partnership based on cooperation and integration with the partners in the two sectors, governmental and private, as well as experts in this field.

The strategic partnerships will contribute to working on the development of standards, in line with SASO's vision to be a globally reliable and enabler for life's quality and the economy's competitiveness.

It is noteworthy that two memoranda of understanding were signed at the forum to enhance integration and joint cooperation between the Saudi Standards and the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission, and the Oil Demand Sustainability Program.
