RIYADH — Saudi Arabia, represented by the General Court of Audit (GCA), has become the new chair of the Arab Organization for Supreme Audit Institution (ARABOSAI) for the period (2022-2025) during the 14th General Assembly hosted during the period of Oct. 25-27 in Jeddah.
The Assembly witnessed the participation of heads of member Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs), a number of guests, and observers from peer regional and international organizations.
ARABOSAI, which was established in 1976 with the membership of all Arab countries, aims at enabling member SAIs to help their governments to improve performance, promote transparency, ensure accountability, preserve credibility, and fight corruption.
It was also set up to spread audit awareness, promote efficiency and effectiveness, rationalization of resources, and organizing cooperation between member SAIs and the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) and other specialized international and regional organizations.
On this occasion, GCA President Dr. Hussam Alangari expressed thanks and appreciation to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, where this clearly reflects the high status that the Kingdom occupies at the international and regional levels.
Dr. Alangari added that this accomplishment is part of the limitless support received from our wise leadership, which led GCA to occupy leadership positions.
GCA is occupying the position of the second vice-president of the INTOSAI Governing Board, chairing the INTOSAI's Finance and Administration Committee, co-chairing the INTOSAI-Donor Steering Committee.
GCA is also sponsoring a number of developmental programs of which is "the Saudi Program to Enhance the Performance of SAIs in Development Countries", and "Program of Audit on Implementation of SDGs in Cooperation with INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI)".
The GCA is also representing the Kingdom in the SAI20 Engagement Group. Additionally, GCA is a member of the governing board of the Asian Organization for Supreme Audit Institution, a member of many committees of ARABOSAI, and an active member in the GCC Group of SAIs.
GCA seeks to promote bilateral relations with peer SAIs in friendly countries by signing memorandums of understanding for cooperation in the field of audit and accountancy.
On the other hand, the General Assembly of ARABOSAI discussed the report of the governing board on the activities of the organization and measures taken by the Board to ensure the implementation of the work program adopted by the previous Assembly.
Additionally, members will discuss the Report of the chair of the governing board on the financial situation of the organization, the report of the Strategic Planning Committee on its achievements for the period (2018 – 2022) and the (2023 – 2028) period, the work plan of the organization, and the financial program.
During the Assembly, voting has been cast by SAIs to elect governing board’s new members.
