DOHA — Saudi Arabia’s Salem Al-Dawsari and Tunisia’s Wahbi Khazri shared on Wednesday the record of former Saudi star player Sami Al-Jaber as the top Arab scorers in the World Cup each with three goals.

Al-Jaber, Saudi Arabia’s greatest footballer, continued to maintain the position of the top Arab scorer in the World Cup with three goals since the 2006 World Cup.

He scored one goal each in the 1994 US World Cup match against Morocco, in the 1998 France World Cup against South Africa, and in the 2006 Germany World Cup against Tunisia.

Al-Jaber is Saudi Arabia’s second-highest international goal scorer with 46 goals in 156 internationals from 1992 to 2006. The former Al-Hilal striker appeared in four consecutive FIFA World Cup tournaments.

Al-Dawsari shared the title of his compatriot Al-Jaber, after scoring a goal against Egypt in the 2018 World Cup, and two goals in the Qatar World Cup 2022 against Argentina on Tuesday and Mexico on Wednesday.

The Tunisian Khazri, 31, leveled with Al-Jaber after scoring a goal against France in Qatar 2022 on Wednesday, in addition to his goals against Belgium and Panama in the 2018 World Cup.

Tunisia and Saudi Arabia went out of the World Cup group stage on Wednesday.
