RIYADH — The National Seismic Monitoring Network of the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) has monitored an earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale, with a depth of 16 km, in southeastern Saudi Arabia.

The earthquake was monitored on Sunday morning at 7:55 a.m., SGS said.

The official spokesperson for the Saudi Geological Survey (SCS) Tariq Aba Al-Khail clarified that the earthquake is about 240 km away from the Saudi border in the eastern part of the Sultanate of Oman.

“This earthquake does not have any effect or danger on Saudi lands because of its location, which is far from the Kingdom,” Aba Al-Khail confirmed, based on the results of the seismic intensity scale. “The conditions here in Saudi Arabia is reassuring.”

He also confirmed that SGS is following and monitoring the earthquakes and working to analyzing them and determine the sources and ranges of seismic activity, as it is using 291 seismic monitoring stations spread in a scientific way to cover all Saudi Arabia’s regions.
