Saudi ministers hand first law practice licenses to three foreign firms

March 05, 2023

RIYADH — Justice Minister Walid Al-Samaani and the Investment Minister Khalid Al-Falih have handed law practice licenses to three foreign law firms.

The firms that were licensed are Herbert Smith Freehills LLP, Latham and Watkins LLP, and Clifford Chance LLP.

The licenses are the first to be granted to foreign law firms working in the Kingdom after the Council of Ministers approved amendments to the Code of Law Practice regarding licensing regulations.

This took place on the sidelines of the International Conference on Justice. Under the theme “Facilitating Access to Justice Through Digital Innovation,” the Conference gathers legal thought leaders and experts from around the world to discuss judicial technologies.

It is worth noting that the Ministry had previously approved the implementing regulations for licensing foreign law firms. — SG
