MAKKAH — An Iranian Hajj pilgrim was saved in Makkah thanks to the urgent intervention of the health authorities who performed an open-heart surgery.

The Heart Health Center at King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah, a member of the Makkah Health Cluster, was succeeded in saving the life of the pilgrim, in his 60s, after suffering from an acute heart attack due to narrowing and blocking of the coronary arteries.

The Ministry of Health said that the medical city received information about the case of the pilgrim who had severe pain in the chest area. The health authorities immediately performed the necessary tests and analyzes, CT scans, echocardiogram, and a diagnostic cardiac catheterization. The results of the tests showed the presence of narrowing and blocking of the coronary arteries that could not be expanded by cardiac catheterization, which necessitated the necessity of urgent surgical intervention.

The ministry said that the five-hour long surgery was successful. The medical team consisting of cardiac surgeons, anesthesia team, and the nursing team performed an open-heart surgery and coronary artery bypass grafting surgery. The pilgrim was transferred to the intensive care room and his condition was followed-up until it became stable and regaining full health.
