Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH — The Riyadh Municipality has begun work of a program to develop and organize 11 cemeteries in the Saudi capital.

The Municipality will organize honoring the dead in 8 cemeteries in Riyadh that currently receive burials, and 3 cemeteries in the future.

The development work for cemeteries in the program includes several things, such as numbering graves with the aim of making it easier to know their locations when visiting.

Transportation will also be provided for the elderly and people with special needs to facilitate their movements, in addition to providing means to protect people from the heat by offering umbrellas for mourners during the burial.

The Riyadh Municipality stated that the development plan includes activating technology. It will provide electronic screens showing the name of the deceased to guide mourners during the burial process, as well as making it possible to search for grave sites electronically.

Corridors, parking, and movement inside the cemeteries will also be regulated, in addition to intensifying tree planting, and modernizing the fleet and vehicles for honoring the dead.

Until the end of the Q3 of 2023, the municipality said that it had carried out 1,764 transfers and honoring the dead, noting also its care for honoring the dead and providing services in Riyadh cemeteries, which comes as part of its programs aimed at improving and developing services.

The Municipality indicated that the rehabilitation of the northern expansion of the Oud Cemetery, with an area of 143,000 square meters, has been completed and prepared for burial starting next Monday.

The Riyadh region Municipality has implemented, over the past years, many initiatives, organizational and development work in managing cemeteries, honoring the dead, mourning services, and visiting the deceased.
