JEDDAH — Jeddah city is set to host the International Media Forum titled “The Role of Media in Inciting Hatred and Violence — Risks of Misinformation and Bias,” with a specific focus on the Palestinian cause on Sunday.
Organized by the Assistant Secretariat for Institutional Communication at the Muslim World League (MWL) and the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA), the forum will gather key figures including Secretary-General of the MWL Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the OIC Hissein Brahim Taha, and General Supervisor of Official Media in the State of Palestine Ahmad Assaf.
The forum will engage in comprehensive discussions on the role of religious institutions and leaders in countering hatred disseminated through media platforms. Emphasizing the moral responsibility of international media, the discussions will address global events and topics with objectivity and balance.
With the Palestinian cause often marred by misinformation and media bias, the forum will dedicate special attention to this issue. Participation will include official news agencies from OIC member states, international media organizations, religious, intellectual, legal, and human rights authorities, along with leaders from international organizations.
The overarching goal of the forum is to generate a joint declaration serving as a reminder of the moral values upheld by the media profession. The event seeks to foster constructive dialogue and collaboration in promoting responsible media practices. — SG
