DOHA — In a dramatic and nerve-wracking encounter, Saudi Arabia's journey in the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 came to an end after a 4-2 penalty shootout loss to Korea Republic, despite showcasing resilience and tactical prowess at the Education City Stadium.

The match, which extended into extra time on Tuesday, concluded in a 1-1 draw, underscoring the fierce competitiveness of the Saudi team.

The Saudis, aiming to recapture the glory of their 1996 title, displayed remarkable skill and strategy throughout the game.

The pivotal moment for the team came shortly after the second half began, when substitute Abdullah Radif, following a tactical change by coach Mancini, struck a brilliant goal.

Radif's goal, a result of a seamless assist from playmaker Salem Al Dawsari, sent waves of excitement among the Saudi fans, reaffirming the team's offensive capabilities.

Saudi Arabia's defense, too, was on full display during the match. Goalkeeper Ahmed Al Kassar's commendable efforts, including notable saves against Seol Young-woo and Son Heung-min, were pivotal in keeping the team in contention.

The Saudi defenders, led by Hassan Al Tambakti, showcased their resilience, especially in the closing minutes of the regular time and throughout the extra time.

However, the relentless pressure from the Korean side eventually led to an equalizer in the dying minutes of the game, pushing the match into a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, Saudi Arabia faced a tough challenge as Jo Hyeon-woo of Korea Republic saved two attempts, tilting the balance in favor of the opposition.
