RIYADH —
The Net-Zero Producers Forum recently concluded its second Ministerial Meeting in Riyadh, attended by representatives from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, the US, Norway, and Canada. These countries, spanning three continents, engaged in pivotal discussions on achieving net-zero emissions, emphasizing the importance of just energy transitions, sustainable development, and energy security.

During the meeting, ministers endorsed the achievements of the 28th UN Climate Change Conference held in Dubai, including global initiatives like the Global Methane Pledge and the Zero Routine Flaring Initiative (ZRF). They highlighted their ongoing efforts in carbon management and methane emissions reduction, underscoring these as essential to combating climate change and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions.

A significant development from the conference was the launch of the Upstream Methane Emissions Abatement Toolbox at COP28, a project spearheaded by the Working Group on Deployable Methane Technologies. The ministers expressed optimism about the continued expansion and impact of this toolbox.

In a move to bolster innovation and collaboration, the forum announced the creation of a new Working Group on Carbon Utilization and Storage. This group aims to advance technologies for carbon dioxide utilization and storage, facilitating the development of value-added products and supporting a sustainable, circular carbon economy. It also recognizes the role of non-combustion uses of hydrocarbons in achieving energy transitions and net-zero targets.

Further enhancing its outreach and transparency, the forum launched its own website. This digital platform will provide ongoing updates, resources, and insights into the forum's activities and progress toward its goals.

The Net-Zero Producers Forum remains committed to fostering just energy transitions through international cooperation, the sharing of expertise, and the promotion of technological innovations.
