CAS Court of Arbitration for Sport

According to the relevant provisions of the statutes of the international and Asian federations, any appeal against a final and binding decision issued by either the international or Asian federations may be submitted to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The court does not have jurisdiction to hear any appeal against violations of the laws of the game or cases specified in the statutes of the international or Asian federations.

Cases with an international element or major cases involving a foreign player or coach can also move from the local level to the international level, thus bringing the special jurisdiction of CAS. Working before CAS requires collaboration with law firms and international lawyers specializing in sports law. Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese firms are among the most specialized, in addition to Swiss firms due to the presence of the court in Lausanne, Switzerland. Handling sports cases legally requires special qualifications for lawyers due to the unique nature of these cases, which rely on judicial precedents and legal principles issued by CAS.

The Saudi Federation is committed to ensuring that its members, players, coaches, officials, match agents, and intermediaries comply with the final decisions issued by the bodies of the international federation or CAS. Notwithstanding the above, decisions issued by the Professionalism and Player Status Committee and the Dispute Resolution Chamber may be appealed before the Saudi Sports Arbitration Center, unless otherwise stated in its regulations.

Among the most significant disciplinary and punitive decisions issued by the Football Federation was the cancellation of the result of the match between Al-Shabab and Al-Ahli in the King's Cup years ago, as well as the deduction of points and financial fines imposed on Al-Taawun and Al-Wehda clubs. CAS upheld these decisions after reviewing the objections submitted by Al-Shabab and Al-Wehda clubs.
