Ons Jabeur to miss 2024 US Open due to shoulder injury

August 25, 2024

NEW YORK — Women's tennis world no. 17 Ons Jabeur announced that she will miss the 2024 US Open due to a shoulder injury.

"I am truly sad to announce that my shoulder won’t recover in time for the US Open," the Tunisian tennis player shared on Instagram. "I feel I need to give 100%, and today it's not possible yet. Life has ups and downs, but sometimes in the very negative moments we all need to find the positive in it."

Jabeur, 29, who has been dealing with multiple injuries throughout the year, previously had to withdraw from the Mubadala Citi Open, a hard-court tournament in Washington, D.C., in August. Despite her struggles, the 2022 and 2023 Wimbledon finalist remains a prominent figure in women's tennis.

With Jabeur's withdrawal, Elise Mertens is expected to take her place as the number 33 seed in the US Open competition draw. — Agencies
