Saudi Arabia, Maldives sign MoU to enhance aviation safety in seaports and seaplanes

TABUK In a significant step towards enhancing aviation safety and security, particularly in the fields of seaports and seaplanes, Saudi Arabia and the Maldives have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) following a high-level visit by Captain Mohamed Ameed, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of the Maldives, to the Red Sea.

The MoU, signed between the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) of Saudi Arabia and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Maldives, establishes a framework for enhanced cooperation, focusing on developing safety and security regulations for water aerodromes and seaplanes in line with international best practices.

The event was hosted by Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser, and Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, President of GACA, within the context of the Red Sea project—a mega initiative led by the Red Sea Development Company to create sustainable, world-class tourism destinations, anchored by the state-of-the-art Red Sea International Airport.

The Red Sea International Airport is set to become a key gateway for luxury tourism, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s position as a global leader in innovation and sustainable development.

The visit concluded with a shared commitment to minimizing the environmental impact of aviation through innovative regulatory frameworks and strengthened international cooperation.
