Adele announces long career break after years of global success

September 03, 2024

LONDON — British superstar Adele has announced that she will take a “long time career break” following her incredible journey as a global musician and performer.

The Grammy-winning artist, known for her soulful R&B hits, shared the news with her fans after her final performance in Munich, expressing deep gratitude for their support.

“I won’t see you for a long time, and I will hold you dear to my heart for the whole length of my break,” Adele said. “I need to rest and take some personal time after spending seven years building a new life for myself. Now, I want to live that new life.”

The 36-year-old London-born singer rose to international fame with her second album, “21,” which topped charts worldwide and earned her first Grammy. With over 16 Grammy awards and 25 nominations to her name, the "Hello" singer plans to wrap up her two-year Las Vegas residency in November 2024, marking the end of her shows.

“I’ve really enjoyed performing for nearly three years now, the longest I’ve ever done and probably the longest I ever will,” Adele told the audience during her final show in Munich on August 31.

Adele’s last album, “30,” released in 2021, won the Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance and earned six nominations in other categories. It became the biggest-selling album in the US within a day of its release, with the hit single "Easy on Me" topping charts in the UK and US.

In July, Adele announced her plans for a “big break” to explore other creative ventures, emphasizing that she has no immediate plans for new music. Since November 2022, she has been performing on weekends and will conclude her shows on November 23, 2024.

The announcement comes shortly after Adele’s engagement to Rich Paul, whom she has been dating since 2021 following her divorce from Simon Konecki. The couple shares one child together. — Agencies
