US official: Israel has not guaranteed it will avoid attacking Iran

October 06, 2024

WASHINGTON — A senior US State Department official revealed that Israel has not assured the Biden administration it would refrain from attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities, according to a report by CNN.

The official stated on Friday that it is "really hard to tell" whether Tel Aviv will retaliate on the one-year anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023, attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas against Israel.

“We hope and expect to see some wisdom as well as strength, but as you know, no guarantees,” the unnamed official said, responding to a question from CNN regarding whether Israel had provided any assurances to the US on its military intentions toward Iran.

Earlier this week, Iran launched missiles against Israel in retaliation for the assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Israel continues to carry out air and ground attacks against Lebanon, while also conducting strikes in the Gaza Strip. In response to these tensions, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed that Iran would "pay" for the attacks. — Agencies
