RIYADH — Saudi Arabia has no knowledge of the whereabouts of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad following the collapse of his regime on Sunday, an unnamed Saudi official confirmed to Reuters.
The official underscored Riyadh's hope for continued positive developments in Syria, particularly the preservation of state institutions, as the country navigates its post-Assad future.
“This situation is a direct result of the regime’s failure to engage in a political process,” the official stated. He emphasized that Saudi Arabia is maintaining contact with regional parties to address Syria’s unfolding situation.
The statement comes as opposition forces consolidate control over Damascus and other major cities, marking a significant shift in Syria's political landscape.
