ROME —
Saudi footballer Saud Abdulhamid etched his name in history by becoming the first Saudi player to score in a European club competition.

The AS Roma defender netted a crucial goal during his team’s 3-0 victory over Portugal’s Sporting Braga in the Europa League group stage on Thursday.

Playing at the iconic Stadio Olimpico, Roma opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Abdulhamid doubled the Italian side's lead early in the second half with a well-placed shot in the 47th minute, sending the home crowd into raptures.

Mario Hermoso sealed the win in injury time, capping off a dominant performance by the Serie A team.

Abdulhamid’s milestone goal reflects the growing presence and impact of Saudi players on the global football stage.

The 24-year-old joined Roma from Saudi club Al Hilal in August, making his debut in the Europa League against Athletic Bilbao. Since then, he has impressed with his consistent performances and adaptability in European football.

The win boosted Roma’s tally to nine points, securing a solid position in the group standings, while Braga remained on seven points, effectively ending their campaign.
