UN Security Council to discuss Israel’s Gaza occupation on Sunday

August 09, 2025

NEW YORK — The UN Security Council will hold an emergency session on Sunday to discuss Israel’s decision to occupy Gaza City, diplomatic sources said.

The meeting, initially scheduled for Saturday, was moved to Aug. 10 at 10 a.m. local time. No reason was provided for the date change.

According to the sources, the UK, Denmark, France, Greece, and Slovenia requested the session.

The proposal has been endorsed by all Security Council members except Panama, the current chair, and the United States.

Israel’s Security Cabinet approved the plan late Thursday to occupy Gaza City in the northern part of the enclave.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Fox News ahead of the Cabinet meeting that his government seeks to “take full control of all of Gaza.” — Agencies
