The Philippine Embassy is urging all Filipinos in Saudi Arabia to promote the Heritage City of Vigan and to campaign and vote online for Vigan at www.new7wonders.com/en/cities to be one of the new seven (7) wonder cities of the world.



The City of Vigan, inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999, is the only World Heritage City in the Philippines. It is known for its unique infusion of Asian building design and construction with European architecture and planning.



It is the country’s lone candidate vying for a spot in the New Seven (7) Wonder Cities of the World. On Oct. 21, 2013, the 28 official finalists of New Seven (7) Wonder Cities, including the City of Vigan, were announced. Voting continues in three finalist phases, selecting the Top 21, Top 14 and finally, the Top 7. Two elimination phases are set on July and October 2014. The official New Seven (7) Wonder Cities which will be announced on Dec. 7, 2014.

This online search similarly earned for the Puerto Princesa Underground River in Palawan a slot as one of the New Seven (7) Wonders of Nature in 2012.  The inclusion earned for the Philippines the distinction of being a top global destination worthy of the pride of every Filipino.  — SG
