MANILA — She was a seasoned Pinay singer and thespian. She ruled the Manila pop music scene in the late 70s. And she was at one time married to Morris Albert, the singer-songwriter who wrote and sang the mega ballad “Feelings.” Then, she disappeared.
Today, Becca Godinez, who has lived abroad since dropping out of the Manila music and theater scene — returns to Manila — and the stage in “Flipzoids,” an award-winning drama/comedy.
She produces and stars in the stage production, which centers on the plight and mindset of three immigrant Pinoys in search of their identities in America.
The show, which first played in Los Angeles, California in October 2012, in staged in Manila.
“I have so much trust in this project that I’m investing to it. It has an amazing script,” shared the former member of Repertory Philippines in a chat with online writers. The Fil-Am play is written by Ralph B. Pena and directed by Jon Lawrence Rivera, the artistic director for Playwrights’ Arena in Hollywood, California.
Becca is playing the character of septuagenarian Aying, a mother described as someone “refusing to relinquish any of the culture and tradition of her homeland” Philippines.
The other two characters are Aying’s daughter Vangie (Ellen D. Williams) and Redford (Maxwel Corpuz) whom she meets in a beach. — Agencies
