ResizeCHICAGO — American forward Patrick Kane increased his point streak to a franchise record 22 games as the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3-1 Sunday.
Kane, the first overall pick in the 2007 NHL entry draft and three-time Stanley Cup winner, earned an assist on Artemi Panarin’s empty-net goal with 106 seconds to go in the third period to maintain his point streak.
The 27-year-old Kane surpassed the franchise record set by Hall of Fame left-winger Bobby Hull, who recorded a point in 21 straight games during the 1971-72 regular season.
Kane has 237 career goals but is a long way from Hull’s franchise record of 610.
With 16 goals in just 26 games, Kane is on pace to become the Blackhawks’ first 50-goal scorer since Jeremy Roenick scored 50 in 1992-93.
Rangers 4, Senators 1: Derick Brassard scored twice as the New York Rangers defeated the Ottawa Senators 4-1 at Madison Square Garden.
Brassard’s second of the game and 10th of the season came midway through the third period, as he beat Senators goaltender Craig Anderson with a slap shot on a breakaway to give the Rangers a two-goal lead.
Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 23 shots to earn the win.
Hurricanes 5, Coyotes 4: Carolina defenseman Justin Faulk scored a power-play goal with 17 seconds left as the Hurricanes grabbed two late goals to defeat the Arizona Coyotes 5-4 at PNC Arena.
The winning goal came with two seconds remaining on the power play as the Hurricanes won consecutive games for the first time in more than a month.
Devils 4, Panthers 2: The New Jersey Devils ended a four-game home winless streak win a 4-2 win over the Florida Panthers at the Prudential Center.
New Jersey (14-10-3) got goals from Lee Stempniak, Kyle Palmieri, Adam Henrique and Mike Cammalleri. Henrique and defenseman Damon Severson each registered two assists.
Ducks 2, Penguins 1: Corey Perry and Chris Stewart scored as the Anaheim Ducks earned a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Honda Center.
Goaltender John Gibson stopped 23 shots for his third victory in four games as the Ducks (11-12-5) handed the Penguins (14-10-2) their fourth loss in their last five contests.
Oilers 4, Sabres 2: The Edmonton Oilers won their third game in a row by beating the Buffalo Sabres 4-2, with Taylor Hall and Teddy Purcell each recording a goal and an assist.
Goalie Anders Nilsson, who has started every game during the Oilers winning streak, made 32 saves. Nilsson is now 8-7-1 on a team that, at 11-15-2, is four games under .500.
Kings 3, Lightning 1: Kings center Anze Kopitar recorded his 400th career assist on defenseman Brayden McNabb’s go-ahead goal as Los Angeles won their fourth in a row with a 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning at Staples Center.
Goaltender Jonathan Quick stopped 24 of the 25 shots he faced for the Kings (17-8-1), who have won 11 of their last 13 home games. — Agencies
