NEW YORK — Evgeny Kuznetsov scored the game-winner with 2:02 left, Philipp Grubauer made 39 saves and the Washington Capitals defeated the Los Angeles Kings 3-1 Tuesday night. Former Kings and current Capitals winger Justin Williams controlled a loose puck, skated behind the net and fed Kuznetsov near the post and he fired in behind Kings goalie Jonathan Quick for his 16th goal. Hurricanes 2, Jets 1: Jordan Staal and Riley Nash scored power-play goals as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 at PNC Arena. Staal opened the scoring in the first period and Nash added his tally in the second period. Carolina had not produced two power-play goals in the same game in almost two months. Flyers 6, Devils 3: Wayne Simmonds and Nick Cousins scored 50 seconds apart in the third period to lift the Philadelphia Flyers to a 6-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center. Patrice Bergeron also scored for the Bruins, while goaltender Tuukka Rask made 28 stops. Sharks 4, Lightning 2: The San Jose Sharks continued their strong play on the road, pulling out a 4-2 win to hand the Tampa Bay Lightning their fourth loss in five games. Winger Bobby Ryan and center Kyle Turris scored in the shootout, while Buffalo center Jack Eichel and winger Matt Moulson both failed to score on Senators goalie Craig Anderson. The Sabres (23-28-7) saw their winning streak end at two games. Blues 2, Stars 1 (OT): Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk scored on a power play 1:11 into overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 2-1 victory over the Dallas Stars. The win improved the Blues record to 4-0-1 in their last five games and snapped the Stars’ four-game winning streak. The Blues pulled within five points of the first-place Stars in the Central Division. Ducks 5, Oilers 3: Defenseman Hampus Lindholm tipped in a picture-perfect pass from right-winger Rickard Rakell at 5:35 of the third period to snap a tie and give the red-hot Anaheim Ducks a 5-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.
