JEDDAH — The Big 5 Saudi, the largest construction exhibition in Jeddah, opened Monday, allowing thousands of visitors access to a huge variety of certified workshops and seminars, all for free.
The four-day event taking place at the Jeddah Centre for Forums & Events has taken on a pivotal role as construction professionals look to update their skills and stay on top of industry developments.
“The construction industry in Saudi Arabia is a dynamic one and updating your individual skill set is vital if you are to stay ahead in an increasingly competitive job market,” said Nathan Waugh, Portfolio Director at dmg Events. “We’re delighted to be able to offer visitors the chance to top up their knowledge, while having access to the latest international and local construction products and technologies.”
Access to the seminars and workshops is free, but spaces are limited so it is essential for visitors to pre-register now to avoid disappointment. Sustainable design and construction will be among the many hot topics on the educational agenda as projects in Saudi Arabia start to look to save energy, conserve water and deploy renewables.
“Most of the challenges we face are a lack of proper knowledge of green design and construction,” said Eng. Omar Mohamed Al-Touqi, Technical Manager, King Abdulaziz University Projects, who will speak about sustainable design on the first day of the event. “People are not aware that there are a lot of activities to be done for any green design for it to be in accordance with LEED. “The other challenge is the initial cost of the green design and construction, particularly choosing the right material and resources. However, we should understand that the value of any LEED building project, which is rated as platinum or gold certification, will benefit from capital appreciation.”
