ResizeMAKKAH — More than 2,500 parking spaces are ready to be leased in the central area of Makkah and several nearby neighborhoods, Makkah newspaper reported.
Supervisor of the rentable parking project at Makkah Municipality Raed Mominah said the fee charged by the municipality is less than other parking lots by 200 percent.
“The municipality has set the maximum parking space fee at SR10 per hour all year round including Haj and Ramadan seasons. The project was initiated by the governorate as Makkah Emir Prince Khalid Al-Faisal had ordered Mayor Osama Al-Bar to complete the project,” said Mominah.
He added the project was initiated to improve the city's infrastructure and not for the municipality to make profits.
“The project was also initiated to regulate traffic and decrease congestion. The new parking spaces are considered smart parking spaces as the municipality had installed a technology that grants every user a number to ensure that the space is reserved for him,” said Mominah.
He added there is an application called Mowqif that can be downloaded from Google Play and App Store.
“The application enables the user to see the status and availability of parking spaces and their prices. Users can find out which parking spaces are available and for how much,” said Mominah.
