JEDDAH —The Kingdom has one of the world’s highest incident rates of diabetes, and yet of the estimated 3.49 million diabetics in the kingdom between 20-79, only 1.24 million cases have been diagnosed.
With the increase in obesity and diabetes in the Kingdom, the International Diabetes Care Center (IDCC) hosted ‘Towards a Healthier KSA in 2018’; an event to share solutions for living a healthier lifestyles in the Kingdom.
The event was held in the hopes educating attendees about ways that they could change their lifestyle for the better.
IDCC founder, Wid Alharthy, said obesity and type two diabetes were both increasing rapidly in the Kindgom, and that it was important for the Center and society to take action, even small steps, to try and reduce numbers.
“Our goal is to treat and prevent diabetes in the community through education and awareness, such as this event. We have a juicing demo with different juicing programs for weight loss and obesity prevention,” Alharthy said.
The event included home exercise solutions from Micha Jemerson, while Dr Mazen Gaith provided valuable information, including statistics on obesity.
Asked about the impact of such an event on society, Alharthy said: “if each attendee starts changing to a better lifestyle, it will surely affect the people around them, which eventually will affect the community at large.”
Jeddah juice man, Ayman Alberton; CEO of IDCC, Naser Alzahim and Health coach, Jon Dean also spoke at the event.
