LOS ANGELES —Colorado’s Gabriel Landeskog redirected a shot by Nathan MacKinnon into the net 22 seconds into overtime for his second goal of the game, giving the Avalanche a 4-3 win at Pittsburgh Monday. Landeskog tied the game with 6:32 left in regulation with a power-play goal and his overtime winner handed the defending Stanley Cup champions their first loss of the season. Jarome Iginla and Patrick Wiercioch also scored for the Avalanche, who never led until the game-winner. Matt Cullen had a goal and an assist for the Penguins while Phil Kessel and Trevor Daley also scored. Bruins 4, Jets 1: The Boston Bruins showed off their superior special teams in defeating the Winnipeg Jets 4-1, but their coach hopes they can make things a little easier on him in the future. Boston successfully killed off five penalties before the second period was eight minutes old and rode the momentum throughout the rest of the game. Red Wings 5, Senators 1: Defenseman Mike Green’s best days for creating offense may be behind him, but he did something Monday that he never accomplished before. Green posted his first career hat trick to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-1 win against the Ottawa Senators at Joe Louis Arena. Rangers 7, Sharks 4: General manager Jeff Gorton spent the offseason stockpiling forwards, most of them known for their speed, to reinforce a bottom-six group that had gone from strength to weakness in recent years for the New York Rangers. That depth and speed throughout the lineup helped thwart one of the quicker teams in the NHL Monday. Seven players — six forwards, including newcomer left wingers Jimmy Vesey and Michael Grabner — scored as the Rangers overwhelmed the San Jose Sharks 7-4 at Madison Square Garden. — Reuters
