BARCELONA - Cristiano Ronaldo shrugged off the boos of his own supporters to fire Real Madrid to a 3-0 win over Real Sociedad Sunday as Zinedine Zidane’s side took advantage of slip ups by Barcelona and Sevilla to open up a four-point lead at the top of La Liga. Ronaldo teed up Mateo Kovacic for the opener in the 38th minute to cool tensions at the Bernabeu after supporters had grown impatient with an uninspired display and then secured victory with a strike of his own in the 51st. Substitute Alvaro Morata then put the finishing touch to the win by adding the third in the 82nd minute. With Barcelona only able to snatch a 1-1 draw at Real Betis with a late Luis Suarez equalizer after earlier having had a clear goal disallowed and 10-man Sevilla losing 3-1 at Espanyol, Real strengthened its position at the top of the table. It has 46 points with Barca second on 42, ahead of third-placed Sevilla on goal difference. Zidane’s side also has a game in hand on both its title rivals. Ronaldo had been one of the scapegoats for Real’s recent stuttering run which saw it win one of its last four games and exit the King’s Cup in midweek to Celta Vigo. He was whistled after giving the ball away early in the game and responded by shouting back at the crowd although all was forgiven when he latched onto Kovacic’s through ball and coolly chipped it into the net. Dortmund draws again Borussia Dortmund wasted the chance to go third in the Bundesliga as coach Thomas Tuchel had a frustrating return to former side Mainz Sunday. Danny Latza scored late for Mainz in the 1-1 draw as Dortmund’s seventh draw in 18 games left it fourth - one point below Eintracht Frankfurt in the last automatic qualification place for the Champions League. Any hope of challenging for the title looks even fainter with Dortmund already 14 points behind Bayern Munich and 11 behind promoted Leipzig. Hertha Berlin also wasted the chance to go third earlier when Freiburg beat it 2-1. Monaco draws at PSG Just when it seemed Monaco had gifted Paris Saint-Germain three points, Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva popped up with a precious late goal to earn a 1-1 draw that kept his side top of the league. Despite winning its previous five matches, PSG failed to shine in a largely scrappy contest that did not live up to the pre-match hype and where Monaco played the better football in a fairly scrappy contest. In other matches it was: Nice 3, Guingamp 1, Saint-Etienne 3, Toulouse 0.
