TM Askar steals show — Speakers mesmerize audience in Division H Contest

Speakers mesmerized the audience with their persuasive speeches and eloquence in the Division H Annual Contest recently at the Ramada Continental Hotel, in line with the theme “Raise your bar of Excellence”.

The contest chair TM Basheer Ambavalan declared the meeting officially open and welcomed the Toastmasters & guests. TM Ashraf Aboobacker co-chaired the meet. The master of ceremony was DTM Muhammed Kunhi, who was assisted by TM Shaheeba VK and TM Rajeev Nair

It was followed by the banner parade, gracefully carried out by Kunhi. All the clubs and areas under Division H flaunted their achievements over the past year.

DTM Saji Kuriakose, Division H Director, rendered the inspirational message and touched the hearts of the audience with his uplifting message of how to raise the bar of excellence and move forward and succeed in the contest.

Twenty-seven speakers from four areas 05, 18, 34 and 37 participated in four categories: International Speech; Table Topics Speech; Humorous Speech; and Evaluation Speech. All participants had moved into Division level after winning contests conducted earlier in their respective areas.

Area 05 clubs: Al Naghi (Arabic) Toastmasters club, Al Ebda (Arabic) Toastmasters club, Energy, Toastmasters club, STC Jeddah Toastmasters club and SWCC Toastmasters club. Area 18: Ceylon Toastmasters club, Jeddah Elite Ladies Toastmasters club and PACE Advanced Toastmasters club. Area 34: Izhaar Urdu Toastmasters club, Jeddah Malayam Toastmasters club, PICPAWR Toastmasters club and PICE Toastmasters club. Area 37: Hope Area Toastmasters club, Wisdom Toastmasters club and PACE Toastmasters club.

Six contestants participated in the humorous speeches. The contestants entertained audience with spontaneity and humor. DTM Abdullah Filimban was the chief judge while DTM Syed Nasir Khurshid was contest master. Among the six contestants, TM Amrina Qaisar got the first prize, with TM Ashraf Meleveettil and TM Surendrapal Singh Ajimal coming second and third respectively.

Evaluations Speech Contest had seven contestants with a test speech delivered by TM Sarah Qamar. The title of her speech was “How to be”. TM Asker Ali Khan won the first prize, followed by TM Meleveettil and TM Fatema Abdul Malek Ali respectively. DTM Joey Villaneuva was the chief judge and TM Kavitha O. Marusamy was contest master.

In the Table Topics Speech contest, where the contestants had to deliver an impromptu speech for 1 to 2 minutes on a topic given on the spot, seven were in the fray. The title given to all the contestants was “Sow the seed of hard work and you’ll reap the fruit of success”. DTM Mohammed Ibrahim Maricar was chief judge and TM Ajmal Abdul Jabbar was contest master. TM Asker bagged the first prize, TM Abdul Malik Hamid Abdul Allam took second and TM Meleveettil third respectively.

The contest ended with International Speech contest — a 5 to 7 minutes speech delivered on a topic of speaker’s choice devoid of sex, religion or politics. Seven contestants from four different Areas of Division H enthralled the audience with their inspirational and thought-provoking speeches. District Director 104, DTM Marwan Dashash was chief judge and Area 18 Director TM Mohammed Ashraf Aboobacker contest master. TM Kharen Javed won the first place while TM Meleveettil and TM Amrina placed second and third respectively.

Past District 104 Director DTM Muhammed Rashid Ali also conveyed inspiration message. District 104 Program Quality Director DTM Ahmed Wazir urged all the members to attend the Saudi Arabia Toastmasters Annual Conference 2019, which will be held in April in Abha. He also urged all the members to shift to the new educational program of Toastmasters called ‘Pathways Learning Experience’ which was launched last year in March 2018.

The 1st place winner from the Humorous Speech, Evaluations Speech and Table Topics Speech contest and the first and second place winner from the International Speech contest will now represent Division H at the upcoming Saudi Arabia Toastmasters Annual Conference [SATAC] 2019. The annual contest was sponsored by Dunlop, Printechs and Al Bayan Stationery.
